The Area Prevention Resource Center (APRC), serving Pottawatomie, Lincoln, Seminole and Okfuskee counties of Oklahoma, has been a Gateway program since 1989. The Gateway APRC is one in a network of fifteen across the state that works in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the Tobacco Endowment Settlement Trust, United Way and the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth. The APRC provides high quality, comprehensive prevention and early intervention services.
Gateway to Prevention and Recovery is a CARF Accredited agency. Our 2009-2012 accreditation review designated Gateway's Prevention division as an "Exemplary" program due to the broad community based involvement of the Gateway Prevention Team.
Our program operates based on extremely high standards and the highest community service goals. We receive funding for our prevention efforts from multiple sources enabling us to enjoy long term sustainability for excellent youth and family programs.
The goal of the APRC is to assist community residents in reducing alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse. We also seek to reduce other related problems such as, teen pregnancy, child maltreatment, depression, relational aggression, and violence. Staff and volunteers have developed long term community-wide programs in Shawnee and adjacent communities to help young people and adults work toward these goals.
The Gateway APRC also helps communities help themselves through advocacy and other environmental strategies that strengthen the bond between communities and their young people. Additionally, we assist the communities in changing the social norms around underage drinking and other high risk behaviors.
The APRC clearinghouse provides a lending library of video tapes, dvds, audio tapes, cds, books, and curricula to residents and professionals in the Lincoln, Seminole, Okfuskee and Pottawatomie county service area. Brochures, posters, statistics, and other resources are also available.
ATTENTION SCHOOLS: The APRC also has a staff person who will come to your school and deliver science-based curricula in your classroom. Please contact us early in the school year to reserve these services.
And we have a Teen Speaker's Bureau providing teenagers who can speak at assemblies and class gatherings on the subject of Relational Aggression and other topics of interest to young people.
