Schools seeking policy corrections

Gateway to Prevention and Recovery works with schools to help bring about positive change to the communities through children. For example, our Healthy Living Program uses a comprehensive approach to work with the school sectors to encourage healthy eating, physical activity and tobacco-free lifestyles.

Through diligent relationship development, ten school districts in the county have been working on strengthening nutrition, physical activity and tobacco policies this year. These new policies, enveloped in evidence-based practices, strive to shift environmental and social change, has directly impacted 9,524 students, and staff, throughout Pottawatomie County. Some of these changes include school gardens at Jefferson Elementary and Pleasant Grove Elementary.
